FAQs
Who does the United Way Help?
You!  The United Way and its member agencies touch the lives of virtually everyone in Calloway County.

In addition to raising money, how does the United Way help?
In keeping with the mission and vision, the United Way began a community collaboration called CUBS (Calloway United Benevolent services).  CUBS involves more than 100 organizations and churches providing services in our community.

Where does my money go?
Ninety eight cents of every dollar stays in the local area.  Less than 1% goes for member dues in the state and national United Way Organizations.

Who runs the United Way?
You do!  The United Way consists of local people who serve as contributors, campaign volunteers, Board of Directors and committee members.

Who determines how much each agency will receive?
More than 20 local volunteers spend more than 1500 hours reviewing agency programs and budgets.  The Board of Directors then approves the recommended funding.

Can I designate my pledge to a specific Impact area?
Yes, by completing a simple designation card available through your campaign coordinator, or the United Way office, you can decide which area will receive your pledge.  Your designation will serve as the foundation for any allocations the agency will receive.

As a contributor to the United Way, why should I pay for agency services?
Not all agencies have to charge fees.  For the ones that do, fees may be based on a sliding scale in regards to family income and other criteria.  Financial assistance or scholarships may be available from individual agencies for their programs when financial need has been determined and there are adequate resources.

Are there ways to contribute to United Way other than payroll deductions?
Yes, contributions to United Way can take different forms.  For instance, a charitable remainder trust can be established to pay income to you or an older relative each year for life ? or to a child or grandchild for tuition or other expenses for a number of years.  You may wish to remember United Way as you plan your year-ends gifts.  These giving plans also offer attractive tax benefits.  Also, you may wish to arrange a charitable bequest in your will.  With a minimum of effort, your gift is made when you no longer need your funds.

How can I volunteer?
There are many ways a person can volunteer.   Please call the United Way office at (270) 753-0317 and talk to one of our staff.  They?ll be happy to give you information about ways to get involved.
